"Dr. Woohoo [translation: serious.fun.] creates art that coalesces the intelligence of algorithms with the creative expressiveness of natural media. Woohoo's Color Analytic algorithms analyze the color palettes from digital images using the same analysis engine that he created for his site In The Mod. The algorithms organize the colors based on their frequency distribution (frequency, relative frequency, etc.) and central tendencies (mode, median, weighted mean, etc.). This information helps determine the size and color of each brush stroke. A data visualization algorithm determines the location of the brush stroke based on a 2-dimensional HSV color space, where the hue determines the x-location and the saturation and brightness collectively determine the y-location. All of this information is then used by the brushes.paints.stencils. and MatLab painting machines which then 'paint' the shapes in Adobe Illustrator. "

Okay heres something fun you may have seen already…

Its called ‘fidgt’ and it basically visualises a whole load of social networking sites at once. So if you listen to metal and have lots of flickr photos tagged ‘metal’ then everyone will know about it!

Unfortunately it’s a stand alone app but its worth downloading and fiddling with for a bit.

thats what its all about.

its not about design.  its not about starting with an idea of how you want something to look and then trying to work out from there how to do it.  its about taking a set of data, making some rules, applying a loose visualisation startpoint, and then seeing where it takes you.

its all about exploration.

i think its going to be fun.
