going to start really trying to work with as3 properly to be able to use its new sound spectrum analysis functionality.
by a few simple lines of code, you can get a frame by frame breakdown in realtime of an mp3 that is playing through your swf. sounds nice. especially that by changing a couple of arguments in the function call means that you get the FFT (fast fourier transform) of the sound spectrum - all ready done and neatly packaged for you.
then i saw this little beauty...

and i became quite taken with the idea of using nice processing or flash techniques to be able to plot and figure out the maths (that i cant be bothered to do with a ruler) to turn things back into more physical tangible constructions.
its probably a bit of an obvious idea granted, making actual landscapes out of the frequency analysis of soundscape recordings, turning cities into trees, but its a nice place to start to get a hold of the basics - and hey, anything that i can glue in the end is good by me.
